Ghana International Airlines
Ghana International Airlines (GIA) commenced operations in late 2005, flying between Kotoka International Airport and London Gatwick Airport. It‘s a partnership between the Government and a group of international investors and replaced the dreadful Ghana Airways.
My only experience of GIA was in September 2006 and I found the experience stress-free and the service first class. I admit it, in the back of my mind, after booking the flight, I kept wondering what the hell I’d done! You see, many of us with misplaced pride and a wish to support our own kept far too much faith in the now defunct Ghana Airways.
I’m sure that GIA’s executives are fully aware this – hence their use of the following strap line – ‘Experience it. Believe it’:STRAPLINE
The airline, currently flies daily between Ghana and UK but be warned during the peak seasons of the summer and particularly the Christmas periods (when it seems that all the British Ghanaians do a mass exodus) you’ll have to book well in advance.
GIA also flies to Lagos, Nigeria (Murtala Mohammed International Airport) and Johannesburg, South Africa (OR Tambo International Airport ) and through a unique partnership with Continental Airlines, they also connect passengers to most US cities via London Gatwick.
